What are we all about? We have two primary goals:
- To spread the word that there ARE reading methods that work
so ALL kids become better readers. We mean to overhaul
the way reading is taught in most school districts. Let’s
be clear from the outset: Whole Language/Balanced Literacy does
NOT work for a sufficiently large number of kids. THUS: currently
almost 40% of children read below grade level and less than half
of them have “reading disabilities.” We want
to empower large numbers of parents to go together into the school
and insist on change. For EVERYONE. The research proves it.
- Second, our goal is to support parents who are already concerned about their child’s reading AND aid those already in or heading into the confusing special education system. Nearly every parent who's child is struggling has the same concerns, so we wrote a book to provide all the information you'll need to advocate for your child. That’s what the BOOK is about.

What ARE Effective Reading Methods?
They include specific, systematic, in depth and FUN instruction in ALL aspects of the English language: sounds (phonemes—beginning, middle & ending), letter-sound relationship (phonics), spelling, word structure (roots & affixes, etymologies), syllabication, and YES, good LITERATURE and writing—all before 4th grade.
Don’t be fooled! English is at least 87% regular, phonetic and predictable! All children need a good foundation in the specifics of language. Otherwise, they learn to guess (usually WRONGLY) and don’t learn higher level words, thus stunting vocabulary and limiting potential.
We’ve been hearing people decrying “declining standards” for years, but this is a very real truth. The tests that are used to determine the national averages (called norms) have been re-adjusted downwards several times in the last thirty years to reflect lower average performance all across the country.
We’ve been spending too much time helping kids “feel good about themselves” and trying to ensure good “self esteem.” No kid who is a failure will have good self esteem. That only comes with SUCCESS!
