Problems like Dyslexia, ADD, ADHD with Effective Reading Methods
Suggested Interview questions:
Is it really true that nearly 40% of the nation’s children read
below grade average?
How do we know this?
The schools just want more money to throw at the problem, right?
What are these “effective reading methods?”
Special education programs cost so much money. They’re
required by federal law. Don’t these programs take funds away from
the regular classroom?
I understand that most children with reading difficulties aren’t
identified till they’re in 3rd grade or later. Doesn’t this
cause emotional problems for them?
People have been crying about “declining standards” for
years. Is this a real issue or do these “back to basics” people
just want to be alarmist?
Effective reading methods really work in the schools where they
are used. Why haven’t they been adopted nationally?
Characteristics of Adult ADD/ADHD
Inappropriate involvement in drugs and/or alcohol at some point in
life
Multiple marriages & divorces, or too many romantic relationships
to count.
Multiple automobile accidents or disproportionate number of tickets.
Numerous job changes, multiple periods of unemployment, often self-employed
by age 35.
Continuing/ongoing difficulties with organization (losing things,
can't remember things) and time management (continual lateness or forgetting
appointments).
Many adults with ADD/ADHD start higher ed programs, however only about
5% graduate.
Ongoing difficulties with social relationships. Many adults
with ADD/ADHD have trouble maintaining friendships because of annoying
behavior (interrupting conversations) or irresponsible behavior (late
for social engagements).
MYTHS of ADD/ADHD:
ADD/ADHD doesn't really exist.
Everyone has ADD/ADHD, so these people are just complaining too much.
It's caused by bad parenting or too much TV.
It’s caused by food additives or too much sugar.
If my kid has ADD, and I give him drugs, he'll just turn to illegal
drugs when he becomes a teenager.
Way too many kids are being give drugs when they don't really need
it.
